The Mouse and his Child

SA4QE 2016 - Yvonne Studer - Zürich, Switzerland

Swamped with end-of-term chores as always at this time of year, I nevertheless enjoyed doing a bit of "fork-you-ating" in the morning. This time my quotations went to a few colleagues at my school who had been in a reading group with me last year and who were game when I invited them to read and discuss Riddley Walker with me. Mind you, they weren't English teachers but teachers of German, French, Italian, Latin and History! Some received a quotation from the book we'd read together, others were given a quotation from The Mouse and His Child, which I love very much too.

James Carter

Exclusive! Poet and writer James Carter shares a wonderful interview with Russell Hoban from 1995, about films, musical and literary influences, The Mouse and His Child, Turtle Diary, his early career as an illustrator, creativity tips and more.

SA4QE 2014 - Alida Allison (and students) - San Diego, United States

My 107 students in various classes are all reading Hoban this semester. I handed out these quotes to everyone, asking that they place them wherever they like here in San Diego. So I have no pictures but am quite sure the quotes were left in a wonderous assortment of places.

Both quotations were included on one sheet of paper with the following header:

Happy FEB. 4 Birthday, Russell Hoban!

SA4QE 2014 - dogfrendy - Melbourne, Australia

$10.26 well spent.

I was accidentally reminded of todays significance by a colleague, my mind somehow connecting a statement of hers to a book, followed by a half remembrance and a Google search.

A pleasant serendipity in a week of less than pleasing coincidences. It led, in fairly short order, to the oddly cathartic activity of taping sheets of yellow paper to.......things.

SA4QE 2014 - K. A. Laity - Twitter/Facebook/Dundee, United Kingdom

In keeping with a very Hobaninan spirit, I am writing in bed, so afeared that I would not acutally venture out and about to leave a sheet of A4 somewhere in town (if I do, I will amend this), I created a virtual sheet of A4 which I shared on Twitter and Facebook. I will also add it to the blog entry I'm writing today.
